My Story

A Lifetime Developing Players. A Mission Advancing Coaches.

This is not a résumé. It is the path that led from long-term player development to building what coaches need next.

Rob Houlding, golf coach and founder of GolfCoachOS

Early coaching and competitive foundation

Rob’s career as a PGA of Canada Class “A” professional has been shaped by competitive golf and, more importantly, by the responsibility of guiding players over years—not sessions. The work began with a simple standard: know the player deeply enough to make the next decision with confidence.

Commitment to junior and long-term development

For more than four decades, the centre of gravity was junior and developmental golf—helping athletes grow through biological change, skill acquisition, competition pressure and the realities of family, school and training load. Short-term fixes were never the goal. Durable development was.

Players and pathways over time

Extended coaching relationships carried players from junior golf into national competition, collegiate pathways and professional golf. Where relationships are public and already identified in Rob’s coaching history, they are named carefully and without exaggeration—including Nick Taylor and Adam Svensson.

The lasting lesson was not a single swing model or technology stack. It was that better outcomes come from better decisions made consistently in context.

Coaching philosophy

Who is the player? Where are they now? What is the right next step?

That question became Coaching in Context™: technical information understood alongside maturity, capacity, history, readiness, environment and goals—with evidence tracked over time.

Professional recognition

Recognition followed the work, not the other way around: PGA of Canada National Teacher of the Year(2013); Golf Digest World Top 75 International Teacher(2022). These honours reflect a career centred on player development rather than personal branding.

The problem in modern coaching

As golf became exceptional at measuring players, coaches were still left to connect the dots—across lessons, practice, performance, communication and technology—often alone, and often without a durable system for judgment.

Creation of GolfCoachOS

His experience convinced him that the next advancement in coaching would not come from collecting more disconnected data. It would come from giving coaches the context required to understand the complete player. That belief led to Coaching in Context™ and the creation of GolfCoachOS—a connected ecosystem designed to support better coaching decisions, stronger coaching businesses and healthier long-term player development.

Current mission

Rob is not retiring from coaching or abandoning that history. The experience is the foundation for a broader mission: helping coaches make better decisions, build stronger businesses and create healthier long-term development environments for players.
